Chapter 1

In chapter 1 of The Winchester Mysteries: The Missing Necklace, we are introduced to Lily, Carl, and Theodore. Think like a detective and use the descriptions of the children – what they look like, what they are wearing, how old they are, to draw pictures of each of them. 

Chapter 6

In chapter 6 of The Winchester Mysteries: The Missing Necklace, Lily, Carl, and Theodore draw a map of the Winchester House from their memories. Can you draw a map of your house from your memory? You can draw your map in the dirt or on paper. Think carefully about the doors, halls, and stairs. 

Chapter 10

In chapter 10 of The Winchester Mysteries: The Missing Necklace, Lily, Carl, and Theodore help Katie by giving Zip a bath. In chapter 2 they helped Frank load the insulation for the construction project. Make a list of ways you can help others around your house. Even small things can be a big help! Pick one of your ideas and put it into action. Then if you have time, see if you can complete another.

About the Author

Alexis Schmitz remembers her first visit to the Winchester House as a child. The intriguing setting and lingering mysteries of the house stuck with her and were reignited when she took her own children for a visit years later. Alexis is a teacher with over 20 years experience, who loves learning and teaching through creativity and exploration. She has written curriculum for elementary school, contributed to educational magazines, and is a parent to four children, whom she homeschooled for many years. Alexis loves wonderful stories – especially mysteries!
